Settings

Machine translation in GlobalSight is configured as part of a TM Profile. To access the MT configuration,

  • Open Setup > Translation Memory Profiles
  • Select a Translation Memory Profile (or create a new one), and click the MT Options button

You'll see this page:

GlobalSight MT Options screen

There are five options on this page:

  • MT Engine: This menu allows you to select which MT engine to use. Note that although the menu lists both Google and ProMT, only Google Translate is currently supported by GlobalSightSaaS.
  • Override Non-Exact Matches below Threshold: If this box is checked, machine translation will be used to populate translations for any segment whose TM fuzzy match score is below a certain threshold. (This button could have been called "Enable Machine Translation", because if it is not checked, no machine translation will be used.)
  • Auto Commit to TM: If this button is selected, translations provided by MT will automatically be saved to the TM. Most users will probably want to disable this, because it can pollute the translation memory.
  • MT-sensitive Leveraging: This setting is used to generate an equivalent fuzzy match score for segments that have been translated by MT. The value of the attached field will be subtracted from 100% to get the score. For example, if the default 1% value is used, then MT translations will be treated as fuzzy matches with a score of 99%. (If the value for the option is 0%, then MT translations will be treated as exact matches.)
  • Show in Editor: If unchecked, translations provided by MT will not appear to translators working with the Online Editor. Most users will want this enabled.

Using MT

Once MT is enabled for a TM Profile, it will be used as needed by any files imported using that profile.
